Anyone seen the Rock ad on TV? I'm local to the track and was wondering if it was a national advert or not.

Haven't seen it in London, was it on during Speed Sunday? I tend to avoid ITV where possible (which usually means watching motor racing and Harry Hill only)

According to rockingham, it's being shown in Anglia and carlton central areas only. I've seen one of them on the website though. It's good that they're getting it on to the tv and from the looks of their time slots it's going to be seen by a lot of people too.

I doubt Rockingham will mind me posting this, taken from the rockingham site, where you can see the "family" version of the advert (there's another one aimed at motorsport fans as well apparently).

Have to say well done to Rockingham yet again - it's not the usual standard motorsport advert.

they seem to be targeting both parents and children with this ad campaign. is it not a little early though? its still over 4 weeks away untill the first ASCAR event.

Not really - people normally plan to go to concerts weeks in advance, and they do the same for the British grand prix. Obviously Rockingham wants more people to plan in advance, buy tickets and look forward to going, rather than just making a decision on the morning of the race meeting.

I'm going to be a total petrolhead here and say I wish they wouldn't advertise it to families in this way, by dangling the carrot of pop band PAs.

I know it's important to get more people through the gates, but if that means getting people through the gates who have no interest in motorsport, it makes it a miserable day for those of us who go to see the cars racing.

I went to the first of those event last year - Seat championship and the Sugababes I think. It was the one where Autosport gave away loads of free tickets too. The place was heaving with tiny children who couldn't appreciate motorsport because they were too young to understand, and who screamed everytime there was a loud noise (cars?). I had to move twice in the grandstands because of people chatting loudly and not actually watching the race, and then the second time because someone's toddler twins kept kicking the back of my seat and the parents just don't care.

If people want to see a music gig outdoors, they should go to Reading or V or Glastonbury. If they want to watch motor racing great, come watch motor-racing, but in the long term, this particular marketing ploy isn't going to win more fans for the sport, because even when they're there, they're not watching the racing.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it off my chest.
